About the Project
Pepper and turmeric are two important spices cultivated in the Wayanad district. These high-value crops and their value-added products enjoy significant demand in both domestic and international markets. Despite their potential, the farmers in Wayanad, especially marginal and tribal farmers, encounter challenges in establishing micro-enterprises focused on these valuable crops. It is therefore imperative to address the current issues related to value addition and micro-enterprise development.
To address these challenges, MS Swaminathan Research Foundation – Community Agrobiodiversity Center, Wayanad with support from the LIC HFL CSR Division has developed a program to enhance knowledge and skills in Pepper and Turmeric cultivation, value addition, and micro-enterprise development. The project involves forming four clusters of 50 farmers each, establishing a central processing unit and a spice processing centre, implementing a robust branding strategy, and providing extensive training on sustainable practices and productivity improvement for farmers.
The LIC HFL CSR project aims to empower farmers in Wayanad by establishing an enterprise focused on pepper and turmeric value addition. This comprehensive program includes training, establishing a processing unit, and branding strategies to enhance knowledge, skills, and market presence.
Through this comprehensive program, LIC HFL CSR aims to empower selected farmers in Wayanad by enabling them to establish successful micro-enterprises based on black pepper and turmeric, contributing to their economic well-being and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
