The Biodiversity programme of CAbC focuses mainly on Conservation, Enhancement and Sustainable Utilization of Biodiversity of socio-economic and ecological importance. Conservation and documentation of ‘High Value’ wild plant diversity, particularly Rare, Endemic and Threatened (RET) plant species, Medicinal plants of ethnobotanical applications and agrobiodiversity, the multiplicity of habitats and landscapes which provide livelihood means and services to local communities of the Nilgiri Biosphere region are one of the major significant focus areas of CAbC. Besides, protection and preservation of traditional knowledge and practices of local communities associated with both wild and cultivated botanical resources is also an important focus area.
