HDFC Bank Parivartan CSR Project implemented by M S Swaminathan Research Foundation focuses on Rural Entrepreneurship development to improve the socio-economic status of marginal farming communities in Kerala.
The project in Idukki and Wayanad mainly aims to develop and strengthen the spice- crops and their value chain by improving various components, including cultivation, processing, and marketing.
HDFC Bank’s HRDP project provided vital support to the Lotus Farmer’s Interest Group consisting of 15 farmers in Edavaka Village, Wayanad. The project equipped the group with advanced value-added machines and equipment, including hybrid dryers, blending machines, ginger brush washers, sorting tables, copra expellers, and a cutter.
The processing unit was inaugurated by Mr Ahmedkutty Bran, President, Edavaka Grama Panchayat, presided over by Dr. V. Shakeela, Director, M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation. Ward member Mrs. Ramsheera Shaib conducted the switch-on ceremony, while Mr Shakeer Branch Manager, HDFC Bank, unveiled the unit’s first products The inaugural sale of these products was initiated by Mr. Manikumar, Marketing Manager, Fresca FPC, Bangalore and Mr. Ashokkumar, Former MD Kerafed, VFPKC.
The new processing unit plays a crucial role in adding value to ginger-based products, empowering the farmers and boosting their income potential.The Lotus Farmer’s Interest Group has secured a promising deal with Fresca FPC for regular orders of vegetable and spice-based powders and pastes. This collaboration ensures market access and income stability for the group and will help to bridge the expansion of their business platforms.
