Students and Parents Learn About Food Diversity and Nutrition at MSSRF’s WFD Events

The M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), under HDFC Bank Parivartan, organized awareness sessions and exhibitions on World Food Day in Wayanad and Ernakulam.

In Cheeral, Wayanad, at Government Model High School, the event aimed to educate students about the importance of food diversity, balanced diets, and sustainable food practices. Ms. Shakira Sumaiyya, an NCD Dietitian at THQH, Sulthan Bathery, delivered engaging sessions on the benefits of incorporating a variety of foods into daily diets. She emphasized the value of traditional food systems and recommended including leafy greens, seasonal fruits, and vegetables.

A highlight of the Wayanad event was a food variety display and exhibition showcasing over 35 local and regional foods. Students had the opportunity to sample different food items and learn about their nutritional benefits. Thirty-one students actively participated in the program, which was supported by school officials and the MSSRF team.

In Mulavakad, Ernakulam, at Mulavakad Anganwadi, an awareness session and exhibition of food products from women’s enterprise groups took place. Dr. Dhanya conducted a session on food and nutrition for parents, emphasizing the importance of balanced diets for children. The exhibition showcased a diverse range of food products produced by women entrepreneurs supported by the MSSRF-HDFC Bank HRDP program. Dr. Dhanya provided detailed insights on food and nutrition, focusing on the necessity of offering nutritious meals to support children’s growth and development.
