Changed climatic conditions are not reversible

Wayanad is witnessing massive changes in the climatic conditions and the present generation is the living witness of this drastic change says Dr. Anil Zakkariya , Former Director, ATMA. The unforeseen heating up in the Indian Ocean made large volumes of water vapour to reach atmosphere and this may be one of the reasons for larger downpour he added. In addition to that the changes in the formation of clouds especially the Cumulonimbus kind of clouds with heavy load of water vapour results the cloudbursts over many parts of Kerala. The activities of the District Disaster Management Authority were explained by Dr. Akhil K from DDMA, Wayanad. He stressed the need of participatory efforts in measuring the climatic conditions of the state and all people should take the realities of changes in climatic conditions. Weather pattern measurement should be decentralized and its activities have to be taken in wider scale even to schools, colleges and farmers he added.

The programme was organized for elected members and officials of Meppady & Pozhuthana Grama Panchayaths. The participants were trained on the modalities of writing project proposals and the session was handled by Mr. Nandakumar P.M (MSSRF). Different donor agencies that can support the Grama Panchayaths by giving necessary funding support were discussed by Mr. Joseph John (Scientist, MSSRF). The programme was conducted with the financial assistance provided by Keidanren Nature Conservation Fund (KNCF) – Japan.
