in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture GoK, commemorated Farmers’ Day on Chingam 1, 1200. The event recognized the contributions of innovative farmers and highlighted the importance of climate change adaptation in agriculture.
The program was inaugurated by Mr. P T Thankachan, President of Kanthalloor Grama Panchayath. Ten outstanding farmers were honored for their innovative practices in various fields, including three from MSSRF’s project villages
Mr. Noushique P. M., Program Manager of Gram Seva Idukki, delivered a special session on climate change and its implications for agriculture. He emphasized the need for farmers to adopt weather-based farming practices to mitigate the impacts of climate variability.
Ms. Aswathi Mohan, District Insurance Officer of AIC Idukki, conducted a seminar on weather-based crop insurance. She explained the benefits of this insurance scheme in safeguarding farmers’ livelihoods against crop losses due to adverse weather conditions.
Mr. P T Mohandas, former President of Kanthalloor Grama Panchayath, highlighted MSSRF’s efforts towards holistic sustainable development in five project villages. He emphasized the organization’s role in promoting innovative farming practices, improving livelihoods, and conserving natural resources.The Farmers’ Day event attracted a significant gathering of over a hundred farmers, government officials, and representatives from various sectors. The program provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and recognizing the achievements of innovative farmers in the region.
