Applications are now open for the 2024 Community Agro-biodiversity Conservation Award, recognizing Adivasi farm families in the Malabar region who excel in preserving native crop varieties
Wayanad District Tribal Development Action Council (WDTDAC), a Grass root Institution (GRI) in Wayanad nurtured by M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) received the Genome Saviour Award of Rs 10 lakhs in the year 2012 on behalf of Kurichya and Kuruma farmers. SEED CARE (an association of traditional rice farmers in Wayanad), another GRI promoted by MSSRF has got registered more than 20 traditional rice varieties as farmers’ varieties by the PPVFR Authority. These two organisations together with the support of MSSRF are now engaged in promoting agro-biodiversity conservation in Wayanad. By utilizing the interest amount of the award money, cash awards are constituted to recognise those Adivasi farm families from the ‘Malabar region’ who conserve the maximum number of native varieties in their farm.

വയനാട് ആദിവാസി വികസന പ്രവർത്തക സമിതി എം എസ് സ്വാമിനാഥൻ ഗവേഷണ നിലയം കഴിഞ്ഞ പത്ത് വർഷക്കാലമായി നൽകിവരുന്ന ആദിവാസി കർഷ കുടുംബത്തിനുള്ള കാർഷിക ജൈവ വൈവിധ്യ സംരക്ഷണ അവാർഡിനുള്ള അപേക്ഷ ക്ഷണിക്കുന്നു. കൃഷിയിടത്തിലെ കാർഷിക,കാർഷികേതര വൈവിധ്യത്തിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ ആദിവാസി കർഷ കുടുംബത്തിനെ ആയിരിക്കും അവാർഡിനായി തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുക. മുൻ വർഷങ്ങളിൽ അവാർഡിന് അർഹരായവരുടെ അപേക്ഷ വീണ്ടും സ്വീകരിക്കുന്നതല്ല.അവാർഡ് കമ്മിറ്റിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ അവാർഡിന് യോഗ്യരായവരുടെ കൃഷിയിടത്തിൽ സന്ദർശിച്ചതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ ആയിരിക്കും അവാർഡ് നൽകുക .അവാർഡ് കമ്മിറ്റിയുടെ തീരുമാനം അന്തിമമായിരിക്കും.
