A life dedicated to conserving the traditional rice varieties and landraces has been awarded Padmasree. Cheruvayal Raman is a tribal farmer from the Kurichya tribal community. He made significant contributions to protect the traditional rice varieties and as many as 65 unique landraces have been conserved in his plot. He is a treasure trough of traditional knowledge and converted his home into a ‘temple of knowledge’ for schools and universities. In 2012 when the Kurichya & Kuruma communities received Genome Savoir Award Mr Cheruvayal Raman represented the Kurichya Community.

Team MSSRF CAbC whole heartily congratulates him on this outstanding achievement.
