MSSRF participated in the Kerala Fish Fest 2022 organised by the Department of Fisheries, Kerala, from November 18 to 21, in Thiruvananthapuram. The Fest was organised in connection with World Fisheries Day and the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (AYAFA 2022).

The MSSRF stall showcased posters depicting information on Mangrove Resource Management, various post-harvesting methods of fishes, the features and benefits of the Fisher Friend Mobile Application (FFMA), and activities of HDFC Bank-supported -Parivartan Project in Ernakulam District. An infographic display of MSSRF and its thematic research areas was highly informative to the public. To retain the attention of visitors, short videos of MSSRF and its fisheries-related activities were played in the stall.

Hands-on training on FFMA was given to the fishers and public to encourage awareness about FFMA usefulness as a sea-safety and navigation tool. Different value-added products were available for sale – such as pickles, powders, and dry fish produced by the working units from Ernakulum district and supported by the HDFC Bank Parivartan project. These exhibits received a warm response from the public. Stakeholders of HDFC Bank – MSSRF Parivartan Project and users of FFMA participated with team MSSRF sharing success stories with the visitors.

The mega event was inaugurated by Mr V. Abdu Rahman, Fisheries Minister of Kerala. It turned out to be an unique platform for fishers, fish farmers, and the general public to understand major activities and services rendered by various Institutes, Departments, and Agencies for the development of the fisheries and aquaculture sector. MSSRF was one of the key invitees for this trade cum exhibition among other local, state, and central agencies.
