A new plant belonging to the genus Ixora was discovered. The scientific name Ixora lavanya was given to the plant found in Agasatyar Koodam in the Western Ghats. The plant grows as a shrub in shola forest and bears beautiful pink flowers. Word, lavanya refers to the beauty of the flowers of this taxon.Dr. Jose Mathew, Assistant Professor, Sanatana Dharma College, Alappuzha and Salim Pichan, Senior Technical Assistant, MS Swaminathan Research Foundation, Kalpetta, are behind this discovery. The scientific report is published in a new issue of the scientific journal Species.
