A stitching studio- sewing classroom was established at Maniyarankudy village in the district of Idukki. The venture has been providing various opportunities to the young women in the area who have an aptitude to learn tailoring/embroidery skills. Also, the unit functions by giving employment opportunities to 8 unemployed women from the locality who manage the entire unit.
The necessary machinery and training support have been reached via the Parivartan programme of HDFC. Ten young trainees have undergone 3 months’ training at the centre which is spearheaded by experienced in-house tailors. They have also started earning income through the venture by selling nightdresses, nighties, masks, blouses, churidars et cetera.
The venture is an exemplar in making women empowered as well as withholding them from the shackles of economic and social injustices
