3,995 Tree saplings were planted in a stretch of 1 KM banks of Cheriyapuzha, one of the major tributaries of Panamaram River and runs through 5 villages in Wayanad. Improving vegetative cover will strengthen the banks and thereby minimizing soil erosion and land slips. For increasing the vegetative cover in public places, 250 medicinal tree saplings of 50 species were planted at 5 Government Ayurveda dispensaries in Wayanad. The Panchayath level Harithakarmakarma Sena members were entrusted with responsibility of maintaining the saplings. Two hundred (200) saplings of 20 local fruit tree species were also planted at 5 schools in Wayanad.
